We are proud to be a Falcon Family where their goal every day is to GROW EVERY future leader that attends Quail Hollow Middle School. Every child can grow and benefit from Quail's focus on developing them into independent learners. The new leadership magnet program is really emphasizing this. There are so many opportunities for our children here at Quail. In addition to the core curriculum which offers high school level math and foreign language classes they also offer so many different types of electives -from STEM classes, to Art/Dance, band, orchestra, Fitness, etc. There is something for every child. In sixth grade they made the transition as smooth as possible for my daughter through the "team" concept that made it easy for the kids to transition to each of their classes and made sure they had a lot of familiar faces throughout the day. I also love the fact that my daughter can volunteer at Smithfield Elementary down the street before school - just one of the benefits of going to the neighborhood school through the Falcon leader program! A neighborhood school also allows her to build friendships with the kids she goes to school with because it is so much easier to do things together outside of school as well. I believe the social adjustments in middle school are a very important part of their maturity growth at this age. They also offer many clubs including a Junior National Honor Society, a Student Leadership Team, Future Problems Solvers, Chess Club - just to name a few! I really feel as if the administration and faculty are focused every day to help each child reach their full potential.

We are in our third year at Quail Hollow Middle School, and highly recommend it. Our daughter has developed personal relationships with teachers and staff, has blossomed into a more confident student willing to advocate for herself (so important for high school and college), and has had the wonderful opportunity to be part of a diverse and vibrant student community. Middle school is a difficult time developmentally, but Quail managed the transition from elementary to middle with finesse. The focus on finding every child’s best path to college and the focus on leadership – both personal and community accountability – are two of my favorite aspects of Quail. We have been very happy as part of the Falcon Family!

As a parent I’ve been pleased with QHMS and have found the school continues to improve each year. There is a dedicated team of administrators and teachers who strive to provide each-and-every student the best education and experience possible. Whenever I’ve had a question regarding testing, policies/procedures or personal experiences with my kids, I have found the staff responsive, open to my comments/suggestions and willing to provide constructive feedback and recommendations.

Our family has been at Quail for the past 7 years. All of our daughters, Betsy, Claire and Lilly were Falcons and attend South Meck. Our daughters have participated in many activities at Quail such as Future Problem Solvers Club, National Junior Honor Society, Band, Mock Trial, cheer-leading and soccer. I have had the opportunity to serve on the PTSA for the past 7 years and have loved getting to know the staff, students and families at Quail. Under the leadership of our principal, Rachael Neill and her instructional leadership team we have made great strides in academic rigor and school culture. Our 3 girls have not only 'survived' middle school but have thrived at Quail Hollow Middle.

I have walked down the halls of Quail Hollow Middle School so many times and it is always with a sense of appreciation. We transferred my daughter to Quail Hollow at the start of 6th grade and she was made to feel part of the school from the beginning. The most amazing part was the love and safety she felt from her teachers and from her counselor. They showed her humility, kindness and courage which made her transition seamless. She thrived academically and socially which set her path for future years.
My son is currently enrolled and he too is experiencing a wonderful school. He continues to grow and develop while making great friends and memories. My third child will attend next year and I know that he will experience more than just the great academics that is being taught.
From the welcome at the front door when you drop your child off in carpool, to the newsletters and class updates, the teacher websites, and the prompt responses to e-mails, I truly feel that Quail Hollow is always striving for excellence and is filled with teachers and administration that give 100% of themselves.

We’re happy to be parents of a 8th grader at Quail Hollow Middle School who has had a rigorous and successful academic career thus far. We have two younger children at Smithfield Elementary in 4th grade and 1st grade and we plan for them to also attend QHMS. Sam (our 8th grader) has participated in Future Problem Solvers, Math Olympiad, National Junior Honor Society and Falcon Leaders at Quail. He has had the opportunity to pursue interests in Math and Science through the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) courses with focus in engineering, design, robotics and next year will have a pre-Chemistry course. He is currently taking high school level Math and Spanish as a 7th grader and will be able to continue high school courses in 8th grade. We are proud and grateful that Quail offers these academic opportunities.
The Quail experience was overwhelming at first, but the community of teachers and staff are dedicated to the success of all students and work hard to help kids achieve their goals and reach their potential. We like that Sam is exposed to a diverse environment and learns about different styles, cultures and methods during his middle school years. We love the approachability of the teachers and staff and the collaborative effort they take towards being “schoolteachers” rather than “classroom teachers”.
I have also served as a Parent representative on the School Leadership Team (SLT) both years Sam has attended Quail. I value this opportunity to work with the principal and teachers to focus goals, strategies and actions towards successful academic performance of the students. These folks really care about all the Falcons they teach!
Finally, a very important factor in our decision to send our children to both Smithfield and Quail is that we believe in the neighborhood school. We like that our children attend school close to our home and that they attend with children who also live close to our home.

We’re proud to be Falcons because we’re the beneficiaries of an excellent, professional teaching staff. The best teachers from our oldest son’s time at QHMS are still there and the newest teachers have arrived with a purpose. The math education is exceptional and Zane summed up his language arts experience this way- “Mr. Wade is smashing it!”.
We’re proud to be Falcons because Quail Hollow offers opportunities for every student. Luke found his musical spot with Mrs. Tobin and the Men In Black. Zane participates in the Future Problem Solvers (FPS) club and YogArTeens (Yogarteens.org), a program created, piloted and nurtured at QHMS by our former art teacher. Now it is a full-fledged not for profit with programs throughout the city.
We’re proud to be Falcons because Quail Hollow has a culture we admire. Recently, I volunteered to help at the Valentine’s Dance. It was a crowded room- full of every cultural and socio-economic group in the school. Not only did the students have a great time, EVERY student that came by for pizza and water was well-behaved and polite – smiling, saying please and thank you.
Quail Hollow is an example of how a modern public school should operate. It’s flexible, diverse, rigorous, engages all the stakeholders and responds to every student. We’re proud to be Falcons.

One of the toughest decisions a parent has to make is the right school. Will my child be happy? Will my child be challenged? Will my child be set up for the best possible future?
I have three children and the decision has been a difficult one for my wife and I. We explored the magnet option in elementary school and it felt right. But then we switched and are currently sending our children to their neighborhood schools and at this time, that feels right.
The reason I chose to send my child to the neighborhood school was sort of a selfish one – proximity to home. My child is going to want to participate in extra-curricular activities, he is going to want to go to school with people from his neighborhood, I want him to have a strong circle of friends that will be attending the same high school as him, etc. The other reason is that my neighborhood school is a strong one, they get good scores and I feel that my child is safe. If I lived in the Quail Hollow feeder pattern, I would send my children to this school for the same reasons. My child would be safe, my child would be challenged, my child would be exposed to all the extra-curricular activities he could want, and my child would be circled with a strong peer group in which to go on to high school with.
I have been an administrator in the South Learning Community for over 10 years, spending time at Jay M Robinson, South Meck, Community House, and Kennedy. The quality of instruction at Quail Hollow is on par with these other schools and in some ways better. Quail provides a high quality education in a truly diverse environment in which all students are safe. I feel good about the work being done in this school and would be happy to discuss with any parent the reasons I believe that you should choose to make your child a “Falcon.”

How incredibly impressed we were by our recent visit to the classrooms at QHMS! All students were engaged in high level work as they collaborated to solve real world problems. The teaching was top notch! The teachers were challenging and motivating the students to think critically to solve rigorous problems. We are very fortunate to be a feeder school to QHMS. What a great place for ALL kids!
Heather Khoe, Multi-Classroom Leader, Smithfield Elementary
It was a wonderful experience walking through the 6th grade classes at Quail Hollow. Many of the students in the rooms were formally in my 3rd grade class. Our visit made me feel like Quail is truly preparing students for the 21st century work place. A survey was done by Edexcel in 24 countries asking employers what skills were most important. Topping their findings:
Michele O’Connell, Multi-Classroom Leader, Smithfield Elementary
We appreciated the opportunity to see "a day in the life" of a sixth grader during our visit on March 21st. Our team walked through ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science classrooms. It was easy to see that students were happy at Quail and engaged in the work that they were doing. Students used a variety of resources for close reading including textbooks, printed passages and shared/projected text. Technology is utilized throughout classrooms as a seamless and natural resource tool (Discovery Ed/Google Classroom/Blendspace). Students that I talked with were able to articulate what they were doing and why they were doing it. Within many classrooms, students were collaborating and explaining their thinking with another student.
Allison Gansel, Multi-Classroom Leader, Smithfield Elementary
The teachers at Quail Hollow really allow students to take ownership of their education. Students were highly engaged in work that was both challenging and interesting. It was clear to me that by enabling students to think critically and work collaboratively, they are truly shaping 21st century learners.
Allison Plunkett, Principal, Smithfield Elementary
WOW! I am so impressed by the engagement and rigor level that I observed at QHMS! There is clear alignment between all of the classrooms, which makes students feel confident in their learning. The caring nature of the staff and the high expectations for behavior and academics combined to make an ideal learning environment! If I had a child I would certainly…#choosequail!
